Ramah in the Berkshires Flags
The challenge was to instill a sense of pride and competition in the younger groups of campers by creating a unique flag for each group. Creating a shield icon and varying it slightly for each group was a key aspect of this solution.
Each flag is designed to reflect the culture of the group it represents, and to interpret the translation of the group name.
Cochavim
Chochavim, meaning stars, has a reputation for fun and relaxing programming. This landscape illustration makes reference to the group name, as well as the group’s large amount of time spent at the lake.
Nitzanim
Nitzanim means buds, suggesting that the campers of this group will begin to grow and flourish.
Shorashim
Shorashim means roots, so I illustrated a twisting tree with roots dramatically shooting into the ground.
The aesthetics of this shield draw upon the visuals of the Israeli Defense Force, referencing the heritage of the Jewish summer camp.
Tzeirim
The oldest campers on “A-side," the younger half of the camp, Tzeirim is a very proud and competitive group.
The illustration of Pride Rock from Lion King, refers to a group meeting place nicknamed “pride rock.” The sense of leadership within this design ignites pride within the “Tzeirim-ers.”
